In 2007 Ribafreixo Wines was born by the hand of entrepreneur Mário Pinheiro and agronomist Nuno Bicó. The two formed a perfect duo that pairs management expertise with technical and operational knowledge. They longed to resurrect their beloved ancestor’s land and bought 28 plots of abandoned land, set within picturesque landscape of vineyards and olive trees surrounded by the Serra de Mendro mountain range. They rejuvenated the already existing vineyards and planted new extensions using native Portuguese grapes, many indigenous to the Alentejo region. In 2012 they opened their ‘state of the art’ winery covering over 40,000 square feet – an ambitious project producing up to 1,500,000 bottles of vegan friendly wines per year in sustainable practices.
HERDADE DO FREIXO
Herdade do Freixo, (House of Oak), is an agricultural company based in the historic Redondo region located within the north-east of Portugal's Alentejo region. In 2007 the existing estate was slowly restored with new vines. In addition to planting the regions most famous varietals like Touriga National, Alicante Bouschet, and Alvarinho, they chose to think outside of the box by planting varietals like Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay to express Alentejo’s wonderful terroir but with a modern sophisticated touch. This winery is an architectural masterpiece built completely underground. It promotes the natural benefit of a stable temperature while using minimal energy. This provides an ideal environment for preserving the freshness and balance of wine naturally. Out of the 300 hectare acre estate, half is now covered with vines. The vineyard is also listed as a Municipal Ecological Reserve. The storied landscape is dotted with pastures for cattle and arable crops. Historic cork forests and olive trees round out the landscape creating a breath-taking ecosystem. All of these benefits express themselves in the wonderful wines created in the sub terranean winery.

What We Supply
Herdade do Freixo flagship offering. Truly age worthy wine, representing Alentejo’s terroir made from Touriga Nacional Cabernet Sauvignon and Alicante Bouschet. All fruit is harvested by hand at peak ripeness and with meticulous oversight. Aged for twelve months in French oak giving it significant elegance and complexity. The wine is matured in the bottle for over six months, and a real standout in any cellar.
The cool winds from Serra d’Ossa allow for a slow and smooth maturation, preserving all the Alvarinho’s aromatic potential. This wine is a true powerhouse, full-bodied dry wine with a complex subtle fresh aroma reminiscent of apricots, peaches and citrus fruits.
Made of Portuguese native grapes Alicante Bouschet and Touriga Nacional, as well 30% Cabernet Sauvignon. It is a ruby colored wine with aromas of black plum and a cocktail of tropical smoothie and red fruits. White pepper and slate help balance the wine making it an easy wine to pair with any part of a meal or enjoy by itself
HERDADE DE COELHEIROS
The history of Herdade de Coelheiros, first document in 1467, has always followed a similar philosophy, despite changes in ownership: preserve the estate's natural heritage, its biodiversity, always relentlessly pursuing excellence. There are 40 hectares of a walnut orchard and a vast area of cork forest, where sheep and deer graze freely. Since 2015, Coelheiros has been ever-evolving into an estate with a holistic view on the production of icon wines from Alentejo. Since then, Coelheiros focuses on regenerative Agriculture, new grape varieties better adapted to our reality, using cork forest as an example of perfectly sustainable system, and apply it to the vineyard, beginning the production of organic grapes, experimenting in biodynamic, amongst other practices.
COELHEIROS VINHA DO TACO
100% Petit Verdot
Located at the source of the Arraiolos Creek and only produced in years of exceptional quality and in limited quantities. Produced in 2010 the wine is aged for 18 months in French oak barrels creating a freshness to last many years. Aromas and palate of earthy notes and black pepper.
